F1 commentator Martin Brundle was perplexed by Max Verstappen’s spectacular tempo on the finish of the Chinese language Grand Prix, describing it as “a bit complicated”.

It was a lacklustre weekend for Purple Bull on the Shanghai Worldwide Circuit.

Whereas Verstappen was in a position to end within the prime three of the dash race, he struggled with tyre put on and couldn’t sustain with race winner Lewis Hamilton.

With that in thoughts, Verstappen drove conservatively within the first stint of the race after dropping behind the 2 Ferraris on the opening lap.

Verstappen got here alive when he switched to the hards for the second half of the grand prix.

He reeled Hamilton in earlier than the seven-time world champion made his second pit cease.

Verstappen then pulled off a powerful transfer on Charles Leclerc for fourth.

The Dutchman’s tempo on the finish of the race was akin to that of the leaders, leaving Brundle confused about Purple Bull’s true efficiency.

In his post-race column for Sky Sports activities, Brundle questioned Verstappen’s tempo in Shanghai.

“It was about now that we remembered Verstappen was within the race as he began to search out some grip,” Brundle wrote.

“Someway on decrease gasoline, or just monitor circumstances, and possibly even the realisation that he didn’t have to babysit the tyres a lot, this allowed him to catch the Ferraris.

“The truth is Max would ship his quickest and front-running lap time on the ultimate tour, which is a bit complicated.”

Purple Bull set for “emergency assembly”

Purple Bull are set to carry an emergency assembly to debate how they’ll enhance their on-track efficiency following a disappointing begin to the 2025 F1 season.

Verstappen completed a distant fourth in China, whereas the second Purple Bull of Liam Lawson hasn’t completed within the prime 10 all season.

The excellent news for Purple Bull is that Verstappen is simply eight factors behind McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Nevertheless, the constructors’ championship battle seems much less promising for Purple Bull,

Purple Bull path McLaren by 42 factors after simply two races.

Lawson’s future with the staff will seemingly be a speaking level within the assembly.

Stories have steered that Yuki Tsunoda might exchange Lawson for the Japanese Grand Prix.
