The organisers for the Worldwide Highway Racing Championship have introduced its Superbike class will likely be changed by Supertwins from 2026 on security grounds.

The IRRC, which has been in operation since 2003 when it was referred to as the three Nations Cup, is a highway racing sequence that takes place throughout Europe.

Through the years it has seen among the greatest stars from highway racing collaborating, together with 33-time Isle of Man TT winner Michael Dunlop, 14-time TT winner Peter Hickman and three-time winner Davey Todd.

Todd, most notably, received the Superbike crown in IRRC in 2019.

In a press release issued by the organisers on 2 August, the sequence will axe Superbikes as its predominant class from 2026 and change it with a Supertwin class as a substitute.

The assertion cited security considerations with the rising speeds of recent Superbikes, in addition to rising prices to run these machines for opponents.

The total assertion learn: “The IRRC Administration has determined that from 2026, the IRRC Superbike class will likely be changed by the IRRC Tremendous Twin class.

“There are 2 causes for this modification: The Superbike Class has turns into a really quick class. As IRRC Administration we need to make a contribution to have extra security in Highway Racing.

“The prices for a Superbike have risen sharply in recent times. Many riders have issues getting the funds for a whole season.

“The IRRC administration want to counteract and supply the followers thrilling battles for positions and full fields of riders.

“Extra data in regards to the rules on this new class will comply with on the finish of this season.”

Supertwins have been widespread on the highway racing scene for over a decade now, although what was meant to be a cheap class shortly spiralled in prices.

What impression the IRRC’s axing of its Superbike class may have on highway racing elsewhere, notably on the island of Eire and on the Isle of Man, stays to be seen.

However altering bike capability for high lessons might properly be seen as a great way of reaching what the IRRC is hoping to in bettering security and bringing prices down.
