Purple Bull Racing requested FIA race director Rui Marques to look out for any gamesmanship from drivers in direction of Max Verstappen previous to the Canadian Grand Prix.

Verstappen went into the race only one penalty level away from an automated suspension, following his collision with George Russell in Spain. The 2 duly certified alongside one another on the entrance row and pole-sitter Russell even referenced how he had extra penalty factors to play with forward of the race, and group principal Christian Horner says Purple Bull raised the difficulty with the FIA.

“Is it inevitable that there was going to be some potential gamesmanship? It is one thing that we raised after the driving force’s briefing, with the race director, simply in order that they have been conscious of it as effectively,” Horner stated, “as a result of, it is clear that that form of stuff goes on. However Max, I believed, [was] squeaky clear all weekend and drove an excellent race.

“We simply stated to [Marques], ‘Look, might they please regulate it, as a result of there’s been clearly feedback which have been raised within the media. Simply please regulate it.’”

In the long run Purple Bull felt the necessity to protest Russell’s driving after Sunday’s race, claiming the race winner had engaged in unsportsmanlike habits when braking behind the protection automobile and reporting Verstappen overtaking him on group radio.

Regardless of Verstappen being in place to inherit the victory if Russell was penalized, Horner stated there was no request from the Dutchman to lodge the protest, and that he was unaware such a transfer had been made.

“No, by no means. Max was speaking to you guys [media] and he had no concept that [the protest had been lodged]. It’s inside a competitor’s proper to boost a protest, it is 2,000 Euros per protest, and we have been stunned that they weren’t famous and despatched to the stewards. So due to this fact you might have the best as a competitor to do this, and that is what we [chose] to do.”
