Ducati opted towards attempting to signal Marc Marquez 9 years in the past, a MotoGP paddock veteran claims.

In 2016, Marquez wrapped up his third MotoGP championship in his first 4 seasons within the class.

Ducati, in the meantime, skilled a ninth title-less 12 months which prompted them to spend large on the arrival of Jorge Lorenzo.

At this second, veteran supervisor Alberto Vergani insists Ducati’s Gigi Dall’Igna was not obsessed by recruiting Honda’s Marquez.

“No, as a result of in 2017 he took Lorenzo and never him,” Vergani informed GPone.

“Ducati tried in 2016 however they weren’t satisfied.

“Nonetheless, Gigi stays absolutely the No1. He’s Ducati’s fortune. When Marc provided himself [at the end of 2023], he couldn’t say no.

“As a result of Dall’Igna lives off his satisfactions like a real genius does. Gigi and Marc are two geniuses who discovered one another.

“It was not straightforward to depart Jorge Martin to go to Aprilia.

“On the eve of the Valencia take a look at, Gigi stated: ‘Marc did some inexplicable issues with the GP23’.

“Dall’Igna is aware of bikes effectively. The Desmosedici is a toddler of his. This is the reason Gigi is aware of the efficiency of the Ducati completely, higher than anybody else.

“He X-rayed Marc and opted for him.”

Marquez’s alliance with Ducati’s star man Pecco Bagnaia within the official Ducati storage will probably be a key storyline for the 2025 season.

The gifted pair have MotoGP’s greatest bike at their disposal.

The champion Martin, in the meantime, should alter to the Aprilia.
