Lando Norris stated his McLaren was “unattainable to drive” in qualifying at the US Grand Prix.

The Briton certified second on the grid for Sunday’s race on the Circuit of the Americas after Purple Bull’s Max Verstappen stormed to pole place after producing a lap 0.291 seconds quicker than Norris.

Norris’s teammate and title rival Oscar Piastri struggled to sixth place within the different McLaren, with the championship chief ending up 0.574s off the tempo.

Norris felt there was “no likelihood” he might have overwhelmed the resurgent Verstappen to pole in Austin as he detailed the struggles which made his MCL39 a “handful to drive”.

However crew principal Andrea Stella stays assured Norris and Piastri can have a stronger displaying in race situations.

“We have to show now that we’re sturdy from a racing standpoint. We sit up for having some racing tomorrow, as a result of it was positively very disappointing not being a part of the Dash,” Stella instructed Sky Sports activities F1.
